Check your vehicle owner’s manual prior to disconnecting the battery. Some electrical systems such as audio and power windows may reset and require security code and/or recalibration. Disconnecting the battery may also erase memory from the engine control module (ECM), transmission control module (TCM), clock and navigation systems. An approved battery backup device connected to the cigarette lighter socket or OBD port can be used to retain memory.
Before attempting to disconnect or reconnect the battery from the vehicle, ensure all electrical accessories such as lights, car radio, climate control, and ignition are turned “OFF”. Remove keys from the ignition. For vehicles with proximity-operated keyless entry and/or push-start systems, ensure that the key fob is kept at least 2 meters away from the vehicle.
Before handling the battery, discharge any static electricity by touching a metallic section of the vehicle body. Wear eye protection and protective gloves whenever handling the battery.
! WARNING
Read the car battery owner’s manual before installation.
Vehicles with Idle Stop Start (ISS), proximity remote keyless entry and battery management systems may
require specific power down procedures before disconnecting the battery. Refer to your vehicle owner’s
manual for details.
Always make sure the ignition is “OFF” before removing the battery terminal.
REMOVAL
Turn off all vehicle electrical systems such lights, car radio, climate control etc.
Turn off engine and remove the key from the ignition. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THE BATTERY WITH ENGINE RUNNING.
First disconnect the Negative Terminal (-) then disconnect the Positive Terminal (+).
Remove the battery retaining bracket to remove the battery from the vehicle. Battery is heavy and care must be taken to keep upright when lifting.
INSTALLATION
Check and confirm the Negative Terminal (-) and the Positive Terminal (+) are correctly matched to your vehicle. Check the battery height matches the old battery and that there is adequate hood clearance.
Inspect battery tray and surrounding area for corrosion. Clean the area and apply acid proof paint to prevent further corrosion as required.
Clean the cable terminals and use a wire brush or sandpaper to remove any oxidization.
Replace the battery terminals if they are badly corroded.
Without removing the protective battery terminal caps, install the new battery into the battery tray. Refit the battery retaining bracket(s). The battery should be firmly secured but do not overtighten brackets as this can damage the battery.
Remove Positive Terminal (+) cap and connect the positive cable battery clamp. Tighten the battery clamp securely but without overtightening. Refit the battery clamp cover if present.
Remove the Negative Terminal (-) cap and connect the negative cable battery clamp. Tighten the battery clamp securely but without overtightening.
Check and confirm tools and work equipment are not left inside the engine bay.
